What Is Waterproof Stepper Motor?

Stepper motors come in both waterproof and non-waterproof designs. The waterproof versions feature special seals that protect their internal components from water damage. These motors are particularly suited for outdoor use and environments with high moisture exposure.

 

BesFoc IP65 Waterproof Stepper Motor:

IP65 stepper motors are dust tight motors that have zero ingress of dust permitted and are protected against water jets from any directions. BesFoc provides Nema 17 23 24 34 IP65 rated stepper motors with sealed laminations and shielded cable. Customized options for shaft, mounting and holding torque are also available upon request. Additionally, gearbox, encoder, brake or integrated drivers are also optional. BesFoc IP65 waterproof stepper motors are ideal for outdoor motion control applications and wet factory environments.
 

Waterproof Stepper Motor Working Principle:

Stepper motors are usually made of magnets, which can easily corrode in humid environments. To optimize torque, the gap between the motor's rotating and non-rotating teeth is kept around 0.002 inches. When the motor is running, these teeth generate heat, often hot enough to turn the water in the motor into steam. Steam is corrosive, so the magnets in the teeth will rust faster than normal. Therefore, in order to avoid this situation, waterproof motors are designed with O-ring seals to achieve a waterproof seal that cannot be achieved with standard motors. Additionally, the wiring leading to the motor coil in a waterproof motor requires a sealed wiring arrangement to prevent water from seeping into the motor through the cable conductors.
